When Sparta conquered Messenia and Laeconia, they reduced their citizens to Helots. Helots are akin to slaves, but with minor differences. Helots could not buy their freedom like slaves and they had limited amounts of property they could own. Messanian Helots spoke Greek and effectively performed the role of slaves and were key to the spartan economy. They would provide light armor troops for the Spartans during wartime also called Helots. Every year, the Spartans formally declared war on the Helots so that Spartans could officially murder the helots.

In conclusion, Helots were treated the worst out of all of the social classes on this website. The Helots were slaves born in Sparta who had their rights taken away at birth, even the right to live. This is a sharp contrast to the aristocracy at the time who were born into a rich social class with many rights to the Spartan slaves, who didn't have any rights at all.
